Kids Clothes Week – days 5 and 6

I made it! It has been one busy week for this lady. My husband has been joking that the “Emily Airline” was overbooked and he was just waiting for me to start bumping events. I may have been overbooked but no one got bumped. And I managed to get sewing done and repaint the living room.

First up are mini me outfits. I sewed my skirt a few weeks ago. I borrowed The Essential A-line from our library to see if it was worth owning. It is. There are so many skirts in there that I want to make. The one I made looks very 1950’s housewife to me and I love it. The main fabric is a Thomas Knauer print called Flight (I think). I picked it up at a discount fabric store because it had birds on it and I have a thing for bird prints. When Delilah saw it she asked for a skirt just like mine. (Perfect request just before KCW). Instead if drafting a smaller version of my skirt I used the Oliver and S Sunday Brunch A-line skirt pattern. This is the second thing I’ve sewn in a size four for Delilah and the fit in spot on. Guess my tiny girl has grown a bit.

So he we are with the wind blowing my hair to an awful mess and the sun directly in our eyes. But there was just no other time to take these pictures.

And here is Delilah hamming it up in the veil I made for my best friend to wear to her bachelorette party.

Then on to my last completed project for the week. I was literally finishing it up as we were walking out the door. It’s an art smock for the girls’ friend Maia to go with her birthday gift of paints and paint brushes. The pattern is from the Oliver and S book, Little Things to Sew. I made a size large because Mia is just about a size seven in clothes and I want her to get a bit of wear out of it. As I sewed I wondered why I haven’t made smocks like this for my children. They have aporns that I made for crafting but the brilliance of this smock is that it covers the sleeves. My kids are constantly dragging their sleeves through paint and this would protect them. A project for another day, I guess. In the meantime, here is Maia’s gift.

I’ve sewn lots of Oliver and S patterns this week. They are just so consistent. I know even if it is something I haven’t made before as long as it is an Oliver and S pattern it is going to work without complication. That said, I’ve also been plugging away at Barrett’s Easter outfit. Which is nothing more than a button down shirt (not an Oliver and S pattern) and some linen pants. But the amount of topstitching and finite details that go into a proper dress shirt have really slowed me down. It will be done before Easter because I want to maintain my record of not bumping things.

Ps: my level of busy means that this post was written on my iPhone, sitting in the car while Barrett naps. We are outside the gymnastics center where the girls are attending Maia’s party.
